The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is recalling a number of cooked diced chicken meat products, due to the possibility of Listeria contamination. The products are believed to have been sold across several Canadian provinces, with some of the brands expected to have been sold nationally.

According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) the contaminated chicken products were sold under several brand names: Tip Top Poultry Inc., Reuven International Ltd., Sysco and AlimPlus Inc.

All of the cooked diced chicken came in 4, 4.54 and 13.64-kilogram packages, with the same pack date of September 13, 2020.

The products are being recalled from the marketplace due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Some of the branded products would have been sold in hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, hospitals and nursing homes, as well as to the general public in stores.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency encourages anyone who thinks they could have affected products in their home or business to dispose of them immediately or return to the place of purchase for a refund.

CFIA explains that while food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell bad, it can still make you very sick. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, fever, severe headache and neck stiffness. In severe cases of illness, people could die.

If you feel ill and suspect you have eaten a product contaminated with Listeria, CFIA advises that you call a doctor immediately.
